Sunday, March 9 was the actual start of our booking for the Antarctic. The Silverseas team had all arrangements well in hand. Everything was organized perfectly.
We were assigned group 2, with a departure from the hotel at 6:15 AM. At the airport we were led straight through security and onto the departure lounge for our flight. The SKY flight from Santiago to Punta Arenas is about 3 hours. Here’s the view:

In Punta Arenas we took the departure jetway to a ramp that led to the tarmac. A smaller jet was waiting to take us to Porto Williams, where our ship was docked.

Finally, we arrive in Porto Williams…

Our ship was scheduled to depart Porto Williams at 5:00 PM Sunday. The winds were a factor in the Captain deciding to stay put until about midnight. At that time, we moved further toward Cape Horn but stayed at anchor in the Beagle Channel.
The plan was to let the ‘weather’ pass while at anchor in the channel. This we did. Around 6 PM Monday, we began our 2 day journey across the Drake Passage to the Antarctic Peninsula. It’s shaping up to be quite the ride…
